Privacy policy
Last updated: 24 August 2026
Ski Run Ratings lets you browse measured ski-run data and rate runs. This policy explains what we collect and why. In short: you can rate runs without an account, accounts are optional and only used for comments and personalisation, and we do not sell your data.
What we collect
- Anonymous ratings. You can rate a run without signing in. To limit duplicate ratings we store a salted, one-way hash derived from your IP address. We do not store the IP address itself.
- Page views. We log which resort and run pages are viewed, with an approximate country/region derived from your IP address. The IP address is used only in memory to determine country/region and is then discarded, not stored.
- Accounts (optional). If you sign in with Google or an email sign-in link, we store your email address, the username you choose, and any profile details you add (home resort, ability, seasons skied). Ratings you submit while signed in are linked to your account so we can show your progress.
- Comments. If you leave a comment on a run, it is shown publicly alongside your username.
- Cookies. When you sign in we set a cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
- Contact form. If you email us through the contact form, we receive the name, email address and message you provide.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of providers to run the service:
- Google — if you choose to sign in with Google.
- Resend — to deliver sign-in links and contact-form emails.
- OpenStreetMap, Geoscience Australia and LINZ — sources for run geometry and elevation. Browsing the maps loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap.
- Our hosting provider — to run the servers.
We do not sell your personal data or share it for advertising.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from your profile. When you do, your login details, email and profile are erased and your username is released. Your existing ratings are kept (they are part of the shared dataset), but any name shown on your comments is replaced with “<removed>”. Anonymous ratings cannot be traced back to you and so cannot be individually removed.
Data retention
Account data is kept until you delete your account. Ratings and page-view records are retained as part of the dataset. Sign-in links expire within 15 minutes.
Children
The service is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the date above.
